Our Journey

Our Story

From the jungles of Camp Leakey to protecting Borneo's rainforest, one tour at a time

Who We Are

The Green Team

The ‘Green Team’ is made up of 33 locals who have come together to help care for the forest and environment. Tips and profit from trips goes directly to purchasing land and education about deforestation.

Based in Pangkalan Bun, Central Kalimantan, our team includes expert jungle guides, skilled boat captains, talented cooks, and passionate conservationists. Every member brings a unique connection to the rainforest that has been their home for generations.

We believe that sustainable ecotourism is one of the most powerful tools for protecting endangered species and their habitats. By sharing the beauty and wonder of Borneo with visitors from around the world, we create economic alternatives to deforestation and give the rainforest a fighting chance.

Jungle guardian

Meet Arbain

Arbain spent 7 years working at Camp Leakey National Park with the Orangutan Foundation International (OFI) and OFI UK as an Observations and Conservation Ranger.

During those years, Arbain developed an extraordinary understanding of orangutan behaviour, the intricate ecosystems of the Bornean rainforest, and the pressing threats facing these critically endangered animals. He tracked family groups, monitored rehabilitation progress, and became deeply committed to the cause of conservation.

Seeing the power of connecting people with nature first-hand, Arbain founded Orangutan Trekking Tours to create a sustainable, community-driven model of ecotourism. His vision was simple: let the rainforest pay for its own protection by sharing its wonder with the world.

Today, Arbain personally leads many of the tours, sharing his encyclopaedic knowledge of the jungle, its wildlife, and its stories with every guest who visits.
